Ora denso, ora engraçado, o artista japonês faz quadrinhos surrealistas nos quais a realidade se revela enigmática e profunda. Tateishi foi pintor e ilustrador, bastante influenciado pela pop art e começou a fazer quadrinhos nos anos 60. Morreu em 1998, no Japão, com apenas 50 anos.
